I am a Kenya-born, Bristol-based artist and I work with text. I used to draw and paint, but turned to text recently as I feel that it is an easily accessible medium, and one that concisely conveys what I want to say. I put text on pretty much everything, ranging from paper, to mirror, to bunting.
I make work based around the stream of consciousness. Most recently, I have been working around the idea of anxiety, and the internal monologue that comes with it. I make work in an attempt to vocalise and celebrate my worries and anxieties. While my work is quite personal in context, I feel that it is fairly approachable and relatable, which I put down to the accessibility of text as a medium. For many of my pieces I have literally just written down what I am feeling or what I am thinking, which is a freedom I haven’t personally found with other media.
